Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited is one of the pioneer Power Distribution Utilities in India in the Electricity Industry. Incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 in Sept-2003 as a result of unbundling of erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board pursuant to Power Sector Reforms initiated by the Central and State Governments, the Company became commercially operational since April-2005. The Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (A Govt. of Gujarat Undertaking).
The Company serves more than 28 Lac consumers of various categories, such as residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural, through 129 Sub Division Offices and 21 Division Offices throughout its operational area divided into four Circles. The business affairs are managed/taken care of by Corporate Office, presently headquartered at Mehsana. The operations are managed by more than 7,300 employees who contributed to business turnover of approximately Rs. 5,500 Crores in 2011-12.
The distribution undertakings and functions of the Southern Distribution Zone of the erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) now lie with the Dakshin Gujrat Vij Company Limited. The company was incorporated as a Public Limited Company on 15th September, 2003, primarily to carry out distribution of electricity to retail and bulk consumers and has become operational effective from 1st April 2005.
The Company is engaged in distribution of electricity in 7 districts namely Bharuch, Narmada, Surat (except part of Surat City), Tapi, Dangs, Navsari and Valsad in South Gujarat. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary Company of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, a government company.
Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited is an ISO 9001:2008 certified leading power Distribution Company in Gujarat, which distributes electricity in the central area of Gujarat. Its mission is to provide uninterrupted supply as a part of Power Reform Process, Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB), the promoting body, has been un-bundled effective from 1st April, 2005.
Accordingly, the distribution undertakings and functions of the Central Distribution Zone of the erstwhile GEB stand transferred to and vest in the Company effective from 1st April, 2005. The company has become operational effective from 1st April, 2005.
This Company was incorporated on 15th September, 2003 with certificate of business w.e.f. 15th October, 2003. Commercial operation of company started on 1st April 2005. PGVCL is feeding electricity in 12 district of Gujarat namely Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Bhuj, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Amreli, Botad, Morbi, Devbhumi Dwarka and Gir Somanath. For better administration and consumers' conveniences, administrative area of company is divided into 11 circles and out of which 6 circles are under direct control of Corporate Office and 4 circles are under the control of Bhavnagar Zonal Office and 1 circle under the control of Bhuj Zonal Office.
